The Community Power Collaborative Inc. is a 501(C) (3) nonprofit organization focused on enabling BIPOC communities in the Los Angeles area to access Justice 40 funding. We're committed to integrated energy solutions, promoting locally-grown food, clean energy resilience, workforce training, and equitable renewable energy ownership, primarily within low to moderate-income communities.
Through innovative "agrivoltaic" systems, we're fighting against food insecurity and energy poverty, helping marginalized communities in Oregon, Washington and California, to reap the benefits of affordable electricity. By leading community solar garden projects, we merge technology, people, culture, and land, underpinning social and environmental justice.

We are building multifunctional spaces that promote renewable energy and sustainable food systems throughout the South Los Angeles Region.
We are building multifunctional spaces that promote renewable energy and sustainable food systems throughout the South Los Angeles Region.
We prioritize community resilience, ownership, workforce development, and environmental sustainability.
Community Power Collaborative Inc. projects in Southern California will focus on BIPOC communities in the Watts, Willowbrook, and Compton regions. These areas consist predominantly of low to moderate-income households. According to the 2019 U.S. Census Bureau data, nearly 28.8% of individuals in South LA live below the poverty line, with the median household income being roughly $44,415 - notably lower than the county average.
Our organization's mission is to uplift these communities by offering equitable, sustainable solutions. We fuse renewable energy with local food production and offer workforce training, thereby countering food insecurity and prominent energy poverty in these areas. Our pioneering agrivoltaic systems, named "Community Solar Gardens", aim to improve food security while delivering affordable, clean energy. These gardens not only aid residents' physical wellbeing via locally-grown food and clean energy, but also proffer social advantages by fostering community involvement, endorsing local ownership, and facilitating access to renewable energy projects.
We've built a strong rapport with these communities over the past decade, promoting engagement and establishing trust. Our development team, led by Derrick Chapman, comprises local community members, minority developers, and contractors, ensuring that our projects are in line with community priorities and values. Our local presence also bolsters our capacity to advocate for local policies favoring equitable, sustainable energy solutions.
Our efforts directly address the needs of the communities we serve. The solar gardens reduce the energy cost burden on low-income households while promoting local food production—a crucial element in areas with limited fresh produce access. Through these solutions, coupled with workforce development, we strive to cultivate a resilient community poised to thrive sustainably and equitably.
We aim to showcase the advantages of innovative solar solutions in urban garden spaces.
Our goal is to bolster food security for over 1,000 residences in the Willowbrook/Watts/Compton Communities.
By developing community solar garden projects, we aim to decrease reliance on fossil fuels and encourage a sustainable food supply.
We prioritize community involvement and ownership in our projects, ensuring they align with community values and benefit underserved residents.
We aim to create a diverse, skilled workforce via training programs and community initiatives focused on equity and inclusion.
We support local policies that foster equitable and sustainable energy solutions.
