Welcome to the Community Power Collaborative—a robust alliance of community leaders, innovators, and environmental advocates. Spearheaded by Derreck Chapman, a Department of Energy-certified Community Solar Developer and former Fire Captain in the Watts community, our mission is to fill the gaps in renewable energy infrastructure. Our focus extends beyond just installations; we aim to empower urban and BIPOC communities through sustainable, renewable solutions.
Our vision is a world where renewable energy is accessible and equitable, serving as a cornerstone for community development and well-being.
Inclusivity: Building a future that includes everyone.
Sustainability: Adopting practices that benefit the next generation.
Innovation: Constantly seeking new ways to solve old problems.
Our flagship project, the Community Solar Garden Initiative, is an integrated approach to greening urban gardens and farmlands. We offer a holistic package that includes governance, technical support, and grant-writing assistance, alongside actual solar installations.
How It Works
We install small solar microgrids that provide not just energy but also educational platforms for community members to learn about renewable energy.
Taking innovation to new heights, we're bringing solar trees to Los Angeles. These structures go beyond utility, serving as artistic installations that spark conversations about sustainability.
Spotlight: Smartflower Design
One of our exciting designs is the Smartflower, featuring solar panels arranged like blooming petals that capture sunlight efficiently while adding aesthetic value to the landscape.
More than an event, the Solar Punk Festival is our way of inviting the community into the world of sustainable living. It's a celebration of green technology, STEM education, and the promise of renewable energy.
Activities and Exhibits
Expect workshops, hands-on demonstrations, and panels featuring leading voices in the environmental community.
Our commitment to environmental solutions is twinned with a dedication to social justice. We prioritize BIPOC communities in our funding and implementations, following the guidelines of the federal government's Justice 40 initiative.
If you believe in equitable access to renewable energy, sustainable living, and community empowerment, we invite you to join us. Whether it's by attending our events, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, there are multiple ways to get involved.
